Montserrat is a mountain located 60 km away from Barcelona that seems to emerge from a dream. For almost a thousand years, Benedictine communities have lived here and pilgrims have come from far away places to experience its beauty and spirituality. Montserrat’s Basilica houses the serene image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia. A rack railway was built to access the mountain-top monastery in 892 but it was this line was closed down in the mid XXth century. In 2003, FGC opened up a new rack railway line with 5,2 km of length and 3 stations.
