Dr. Zhou’s research has focused on urban/transport planning and policy as well as how big/open data and related analytics can improve/enhance them. His development of a regional travel demand model for the Greater Bay Area has been funded by a national key project grant of RMB 1.2 million from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology.

He has also successfully executed a grant of HK $ 2.1 million from Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology Commission, which focused on multimodal transport data fusion and analytics. He has authored 80+ articles in internationally refereed journals, including top-notch multidisciplinary journals such as Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences and leading specialism journals such Journal of American Planning Association, Urban Studies, Urban Geography, Transportation Research A, and Transport Policy.

He was invited overseas expert (2021-22) and Tongji-Bayer Chair Professor in Sustainable Development (2013-14), Tongji University, China. He served as a member of Board of Directors, International Association for China Planning (IACP) (2011-16). He was Chief Examiner, HKU Master Program in Transport Policy and Planning. He is Director, Master of Urban Planning at HKU.
