Public Transport as a Decabornisation Leader: The Importance of renewable energy supply

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is providing Cost Effective and Energy Efficient Rail based Public Transport System in Delhi and NCR region. In order to contribute towards ‘Environment’ & ‘Climate Change’, ‘National Solar Mission’, ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ of Govt. of India and to also mitigate the impact of increasing electricity tariff for energy being procured through power distribution companies, DMRC took initiative to tap the renewable energy from on-site rooftop solar plants and off-site solar plant at REWA in Madhya Pradesh. Currently, 35% of total energy requirement is met from the energy generated from renewable sources. By the year 2030, DMRC wants to redefine the energy mix from present position of 35% of total energy requirement from renewable sources to 50% of total energy requirement and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
