Nuria Fernandez is managing the largest public transportation investment in our nation’s history — more than $20 billion to modernize and expand transit nationwide.
She was sworn in as FTA Administrator in June 2021 after being appointed as Deputy Administrator and FTA senior official the day President Biden took office. She arrived at her FTA role after 35 years in the transportation industry, serving as General Manager and CEO of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, where she was responsible for transit services for more than two million people.
She served in leadership positions at some of the busiest transit agencies in America. She was born and raised in Panama City, Panama, and attained her Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering right here at Bradley, before gaining her Master of Business Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
