Associate Professor Selby Coxon is the inaugural director of the MADA hosted, Mobility Design Lab. His career spans thirty years in professional industrial design, research and higher education, most of which have been in leadership positions. Selby has wide interests in the mobility design space especially strategies to which design can enhance the passenger experience of public and active transport.
He is currently a Chief Investigator in the Smart Pavements ARC Transformation Hub and also the ARC funded Net-Zero Precincts research project amongst other research programs. Selby is the principle author of the book Urban Mobility Design published by Elsevier and co-editor of Advancing a Design Approach to Enriching Public Mobility published by Springer.
In 2017, he was the recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s award for research excellence. He serves on a number of faculty and University committees and boards, becoming Associate Dean, Graduate Studies for MADA in December 2019.

Integrating micro mobility with public transport – a design approach
This presentation discusses the work of Monash University’s Mobility Design Lab located in Melbourne Australia and in particular focuses upon examples of integrating micro-mobility into mainstream public transport. Cities around the world are experiencing a resurgent growth in micro-mobility spurred on by both the need to meet decarbonising goals and ubiquitous connected technology as an enabler to multimodal shared transport. The Mobility Design Lab shares examples of research projects that address both the challenges and opportunities of this changing mobility landscape.
