  • June 06: Ticketing and payment technology as a MaaS enabler

From Ubitransport to M Group, a case study on a merging mobility market

The health crisis has spurred critical changes in the mobility market. There has been a Before and an After. Users’ expectations have anchored the need for the use of contactless payment media, one fare for multimodal journeys and fares optimised according to the usage. PTAs have seized the budget cuts as an opportunity for economies of scale: where 6 technologies meant six tenders (closed loop fare collection, e-payments, users’ app, passenger information, data, operators). The buyers are not looking for the best in class in these 6 areas anymore, but for a couple of companies able to team up in a constructive way to meet the specification requirements. The history of M Group reflects this very earthquake. Let’s hear about these evolutions from an inside voice.
