Beyond zero emissions - Right-sizing of electrified public transport

Cities and regions are committed to reduce carbon emissions with well-defined goals to be fulfilled in the near future. Electrification of the city bus traffic is a key component in achieving these goals but do the cities get the best solution or are they stuck in old patterns based on diesel as energy source? The next step is to consider how the electrification can be implemented in the most sustainable way regarding energy onboard, charging strategy, renewable energy, the usage of existing power grid in combination with automation to reach productive bus operations. As electrification of the bus traffic is increasing at a rapid pace also globally it is essential that new cities implement and plan for systems based on efficient and sustainable system thinking.
