The Road to Barcelona is set…for the UITP Global Summit in June

The public transport capital of the world. That is what Barcelona will become when the UITP Global Public Transport Summit arrives in the city from 4-7 June this year.

As the defining event of its kind dedicated to urban mobility, it is the standout date in the calendar of all public transport professionals.

Beginning in 1886, many global cities have welcomed the world of public transport, with the host city benefiting from a huge amount of interest and excitement.

In 2023, the UITP Global Public Transport Summit is back for the first edition in four years, for an immersive, four-day experience, under the theme Bright Light of the City.

With a diverse Congress programme, alongside an outstanding international Exhibition full of the latest innovations, solutions, and products, the UITP Summit is the place to be to discover the next steps in urban mobility.

The world has lived through great change since our last edition, therefore reuniting with the whole sector under one roof is the only way we can determine the path forward for public transport.

It is a huge undertaking to plan and prepare for an event such as the UITP Global Summit and it takes a lot of effort to bring the event to life. UITP is working closely with our three local partners, FGC, TMB and Renfe to make this edition a huge success.

There are many reasons why those with a vested interest in sustainable urban mobility should join us in Barcelona this June…

A great deal has changed within the sector since the last Global Summit in Stockholm in 2019, and our programme and agenda must reflect that. There will be a lot of expectation around the conversations that will take place during the Summit, as people are looking for answers to the questions facing the world of urban mobility.

That means there is a challenge to create a programme fit for the current climate, and one that covers both public transport fundamentals, but also current trends and issues such as the energy crisis, the impact of inflation, staff shortages, and more of the serious talking points we face.

It is also the only occasion where you will have the opportunity to meet, interact and engage with everyone from decision makers and CEOS, to creative minds and strategic thinkers – the UITP Summit brings all names around the table. We also make sure that our delegates are offered a fully immersive experience alongside the Congress and Exhibition, with numerous networking opportunities, side events, technical events, and social gatherings.

With the Summit being held in Barcelona, we also know that our attendees will have the opportunity to explore this incredibly vibrant city.

We know that Barcelona is a city where light shines brightly through its rich Mediterranean culture, beautiful architecture, art, food, and social activities.

One pivotal element which allows people to embrace the magic of this charming city is through its well-connected public transport system.

And under the 2023 theme “Bright Light of the City”, we will offer our attendees a programme developed to best reflect the current status of the public transport sector, and an agenda built around two pillars: Cities and People.

We know that public transport defines our cities, and we also know that is should be for the people who work in it, and who use it. By determining a direction from those two pillars we are really going to have a programme that is relevant, is informative, and crucially, will help move the needle on what the sector should be talking about going forward.

With this in mind, we’re building our 2023 programme on two pillars to define our focus and direction – Cities and People.

We know that it is the people who work in, and use public transport that make it what it is.

With passengers and employees, public transport is for everyone. It is for People, for our Cities.

So how do we plan to showcase the six tracks to drive the direction of our focus?

Within those two pillars, we will showcase how to develop the conversation around the topics moving our sector forward with six dedicated tracks, three under each of the two pillars.

Under the pillar of Cities our tracks will be Next Gen Cities, Transitioning to Net Zero, Innovative and Resilient Operations.

Under the pillar of People our tracks will be Public Transport for Social Inclusion, Talented, Happy Staff and Customer Centricity.

We will bring you more news on our Summit programme, and first set of impressive international speakers as we advance towards Barcelona in the weeks and months ahead.

The Summit is a truly outstanding occasion for the host city to has a truly global dimension to it, attracting name and faces from across the globe eager to participate.
