Mr Shahrin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators (UK), the Chairman of the UITP Asia Pacific Urban Rail Committee, and a Chartered Engineer in Railway Technology and Systems (Singapore). He was conferred the National Day 2019 Public Service Medal by the President of Singapore.
 
During his illustrious career, Mr Shahrin was involved in building the Middle East’s first monorail system, and overseeing the development and operation of the whole Dubai railway and tram network. Today, Mr Shahrin leads a team of 900 staff responsible for operating and maintaining Singapore’s newest MRT line, the Thomson-East Coast Line. He is also currently involved in the development of the first cross-border MRT line that will link Singapore and Johor Bahru.
