  • June 05: Managing energy in public transport operations: from renewable supplies to intelligent charging management

How electromobility changes the operation of public transport

The speech will give an overview, which challenges electrification brings to public transport operators. It shows, how electrification fits into de-carbonisation of public transport and reduction of air pollution. I will highlight, why the majority of clean buses are battery-electric and what this means for the operators. He will point out why we are likely to see even more opportunity charging in the future. The need for cost optimisation while dealing with daily variability of vehicle autonomy means that disruptions will have operational effects. What kind of disruptions that are relevant for battery-electric buses will there be and what requirements for the ITS system can be derived? I will provide opinions and answers to this and other questions. He will give an outlook on how the ITS system can support the public transit operator in an ideal way.
