Charles Drane serves as the Chief Maintenance Officer for the SFMTA. He maintains efficient and safe operation of various types of transportation, including electric trolley buses, light rail, historic streetcars, and cable cars. He prioritizes the upkeep and repair of critical systems, transit guideways, and facilities to ensure the delivery of superior service and safety for passengers.
He takes pride in managing the infrastructure systems that run on renewable energy sources to power San Francisco’s transit vehicles. He strongly supports the next generation of skilled workers by launching training programs for those who need more experience. He inspires professional growth by offering educational programs to help cultivate future leaders in the transportation industry.
Before his employment with SFMTA, he had a distinguished career in the United States Navy, gaining extensive knowledge of electrical systems and propulsion plant operations. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power Program.
