  • June 05: Bright Light of the City: Lighting the way for our passengers’ experience

    Like Moths to a Flame

In order to provide the highest level of customer service, and maximize our investment in transit infrastructure, rail stations must act as beacons within our cities – attracting passengers like moths to a flame. This analogy references the warm, welcoming, and magnetic effect lighting can have on living things. As we consider rail station design in this context, we begin to understand the importance of stations as cherished civic buildings situated at the heart of our communities. This presentation will touch on examples of lighting and materiality that transform the often cold and brutal environments of infrastructure into human spaces. We will delve into how rail stations become the warm hearth at the heart of our communities, providing an comfortable, safe, and delightful experience for travelers and the neighbourhoods they serve.
