ATM is promoting the connection of existing tram networks along Avinguda Diagonal, one of the most iconic boulevards in Barcelona. This connection will imply to boost the existing demand two times with only 4 km of new tracks and creating new interchanges with PT system. In parallel to tram works, the cross section of this corridor will be changed, giving more space to sustainable means of transport and pedestrians. Moreover, this section will be operated with catenary free system (underground third rail), innovation that requires to retrofit existing fleet of 41 trams. Works for the 1st phase of this connection (2 km out of 4) are on going and for the expected time of the visit, installation of tracks and the third rail will be noticed.
