Anjes Tjarks is Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition since June 10, 2020. In this role, he seeks to drive the change towards greener, more sustainable and more efficient mobility in the city of Hamburg and beyond. Anjes Tjarks was a member of the Hamburg Parliament from 2011 until 2020, where he acted as spokesperson for economic policy and from 2015 onwards as chair for the Green parliamentary group. He was born in Hamburg in 1981 and studied education, English and social sciences in Hamburg and South Africa. He holds a PhD in political science and cognitive linguistics. Anjes Tjarks formerly worked as a teacher of Politics and English, but is currently on leave to devote himself to politics full-time.
