Since 2018, Carine Assaf is an affiliated PhD researcher in the Planning & Development (P&D) research unit of the Department of Architecture, KU Leuven, Belgium. She is passionate about design and planning, transport and spatial injustices, politics of technology, and the social aspect of the built environment. Her dissertation focuses on the interplay between transport-related institutions and local initiatives studied through a socio-spatial institutional spatial planning framework in Brussels, Belgium, and Beirut, Lebanon. In parallel to her PhD, she is currently assisting in coordinating the Postgraduate International Module in Spatial Development Planning at KU Leuven. Also, she is a volunteer with Riders’ Rights NGO and Youth Against Corruption (YAC) NGO in Lebanon. She holds a Master in Urbanism and Strategic Planning in 2018 from KU Leuven, and a Bachelor in Architecture in 2016 from Notre Dame University – Louaize (NDU), Lebanon.
