Winners of UITP Photo Contest capture Public Transport at its most innovative
How is public transport leading the mobility transition? This is what the UITP Photo Contest aimed to answer. Based on the quality of the photographs submitted, the answer seems to be manifold. The winning photos captured a range of innovations from autonomous buses, to sustainable stations, to new mobility solutions.
The jury, made up of UITP experts and external communications specialists, received 365 submissions, from 141 organisations. Photos were judged based on how well they captured the contest’s theme of ‘Lead the TRANSITion’, as well as on creativity and overall message. The contest was open to any individual belonging to an organisation (operator, industry, authority) active in the public transport sector.
UITP Secretary General Alain Flausch, and UITP President Masaki Ogata, presented winners with next generation drones, UITP event vouchers, and VIP benefits at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit today.
Gold winner
First place was awarded to Laura Mareovich, from PostBus. Her photograph, ‘Driverless SmartShuttle in Sion‘, depicts the world’s first autonomous vehicle tested in public. This pilot project began in June 2016, in Sion, Switzerland, with two electric and autonomous buses offering residents and visitors a unique way to access the city.
Silver winner
Taïb Chabbi from STIB was awarded second place with his photograph, ‘Multimodal Schuman station’. The photo emphasises the multimodal potential of public transport, capturing the recent renovations to the station.
Bronze winner
Third place was presented to Alex de Jong, from VDL Bus Coach, with his photograph, ‘Super-charged electric buses’. Showing a series of ‘fast-charging’ stations, the necessary infrastructure behind electric buses, Mr de Jong’s photo presents a vision of the future: zero emission, electric transport, supported by sustainable infrastructure.
The winning photos, along with the other finalists and selected submissions, are displayed in a dedicated exhibition during the three days of the Summit.
